C.V
See below for a summary of my C.V. See here to download a full copy.
I am and always have been primarily creative. From a youngster through to adulthood my time has been spent indulging my love of Art, Design and Animation.
As a Teacher I am driven by the success, motivation and creative minds of my students. I facilitate learning without dictating it. I encourage curiosity, learning for life; both inside and beyond the classroom and for each individual to undertake their own creative journey within their education.
As an Animator I am fascinated by movement, how we can bring inanimate objects to life. To capture the reality of ones movement through drawing, on paper, in clay or on a computer and to bend the rules of physics to create a world of escapeism. Animation provides a sometimes welcome break from reality, but can also appear even more accurate than real life itself – this conundrum is baffling – and exciting!
As a Mother I am amazed each day by how fearless and unrestricted little minds and imaginations can be. I play the dragon to my sons knight, the doctor to his poorly patient, the sidekick to his superhero. We bake, paint, treasure hunt, draw, build and learn in many playful ways. As a mum I am the student and my son is my teacher.
Teaching Experience
I started teaching in 2005, then unqualified, I undertook and successfully completed my first teaching qualifictaion during my first year. I took a short break to return to Animation in 2008 but quickly realised how much I loved being a teacher so returned in 2010 gaining my PGCE and now armed to teach wider ages. I have taught at the same school for the last 10 years across ages 11-19 and on a number of Art and Technology related subjects.
Animation Practice
During my degree in 2003 I worked for barkingMADproductions (Spongebob Square Pants) unpaid to get my toe in. After the successful completion of my degree in 2004 I was invited to work with Aardman Features in Bristol (Wallace ad Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit). I left Aardman to start teaching in Sept 2004. In 2008 I relocated to London and seized the opportunity to return to Animation working at Tiger Aspect TV Productions (Charlie & Lola/ Tinga Tinga Tales). I still keep up-to-date with the world of Animation but more so now through the work of my students.
